- Access the following document, then MAKE A COPY for yourself so that you can edit it.

- Research speech topics. Your speech must be in the argumentative style, so choose a topic that is interesting to you or that you are passionate about. Let's stay away from topics that could be seriously offensive. :)

TUESDAY 11/28
- Please focus today on working on writing your speech. Please refer to last week's schedule to see how to write your speech and the order in which you should be organizing it. Make good use of your time today. Ms. V. will check to see what you have done on Thursday.
THURSDAY 11/30
- Ms. V. will be checking to see your progress on how much of your speech you have written. She will be having some individual meetings with students to make sure they are on the right track.
- We have two more class meetings before you are expected to have your speech done, then we will practice two different days on speaking. Make good use of your time today. Remember...you should be shooting for 4 minutes of speaking time.
TUESDAY 12/5
- Continue researching and writing your speech. Remember: Your speech must be 3 minutes long. Shoot for 4 minutes in case your rate of speech increases while you talk!
- Make sure you have the following information in your speech:
- Introduction - Include your position and BRIEFLY state 3 main points
- Your arguments, detailing your 3 main points.

- You should have your speech almost completely written by the beginning of class today. By the end of class, you should be completely done!

- Practice your speech - Ms. V. will have your printed speeches for you today. Changes made to your speech after the school day on Monday may not be available when they are printed out.
- Ms. V. will go over some techniques to help you become more comfortable giving your speech.
- Cut-out your speech onto 3x5 cards, highlight areas that you will give emphasis to.
- Practice speaking to "the wall".

- Discuss chosen topics and start researching your debate in your pre-chosen team:

TUESDAY 1/16
- ONE person on your team must create a shared spreadsheet. Give all members of your team (and Ms. V.) editing privileges. Here is an example of what your shared sheet should look like: MODEL SHEET
- Within the shared spreadsheet, collect evidence within your "sub-sheet" and place different pieces of evidence on each line. Don't forget to include your source. This will be a grade!
- Begin researching your topic. Each time you find a piece of evidence that could be used during your debate to back up what is in your speaking portion, document it in your spreadsheet with the quoted material (or summary of) and the source it came from (both the link and the abbreviated link or site title).
- Today, focus on researching your own arguments.
- Discuss who will be taking specific speaking portions (ex: 1st spkr, 2nd sprk, 3rd spkr)
THURSDAY 1/18
- Continue researching for your debate.
- Focus on your own arguments but don't forget about the refutation portion - you want to make sure you have a rebuttal for the evidence that will get thrown at you from the other team!
- Begin writing your individual portions. Use your "Ban Boxing" handout for some guidance as to what you should include in your speaking portion.
TUESDAY 1/23
- Print out your speeches & spreadsheet notes if you did not do that at home.
- Work the rest of the time we have with your team - go through your speeches from start to finish, try to find flaws in each others' information (you can bet that the opposing team will be doing that on Thursday!).
- Discuss debate rubric one more time.
